Né à Naples dans une famille noble, Alphonse abandonne une brillante carrière juridique pour embrasser la vie sacerdotale, animé d’un zèle extraordinaire pour le salut des âmes. Cette œuvre magistrale expose ses premières luttes intérieures, son apostolat missionnaire, les débuts de la Congrégation du Très Saint Rédempteur, ainsi que ses premiers écrits. La profondeur de sa piété, son amour de l’Eucharistie et de Marie, ainsi que sa doctrine morale rigoureuse et miséricordieuse transparaissent à chaque page.
